AFA Foundation Presents Annual Bursaries to Students
At a special joint Air Force Association/RAAF Vietnam Veterans’ Association ceremony earlier this year, young students were presented bursaries in support of their continuing academic studies and vocational training.
In 2009, the Air Force Association Foundation, together with the RAAF Vietnam Veterans Association (Vic) and the Vietnam and Associated Veterans Sub-Branch, instituted an annual bursary to provide financial assistance to direct relatives of Vietnam veterans. The qualifying criteria have recently been broadened to include children or grandchildren of Air Force members with operational service or three or more years of continuous service. The bursaries are granted to assist students in recognised educational or training courses.
The first Air Force Association Foundation bursary was presented by Chairman of the Foundation, John McCrystal, to Madison, Jessica, Eva and Roman Bialobrzeski, watched proudly by their mum. The children and family were delighted with their Award which will be used for the purchase of school uniforms / text books and other educational costs.
Kaleb Elliott was the next bursary recipient, presented to both he and his mother by John. Kaleb’s bursary will be used for school fees and music tuition.
Chris Hudnott, RAAF VVA President then presented two Lee & Ellen Scully Encouragement Awards to Aimee Reed for assistance with her final year of an Arts degree at Melbourne University, and to Jonathan Lynch to assist with the costs of text books and study material associated with a Masters of Teaching qualification at Deakin University.
The John ‘Snow’ Coughlan Encouragement Award was presented by Gill Coughlan, Snow’s widow and Secretary of the RAAF VVA, to the four Bialobrezski children.
The Bursaries are presented at a joint AFA and RAAF VVA ceremony annually February.
